More and more suppliers (e.g. Iris Intranet, Plek and A&M impact ) enable preboarding and onboarding via the (social) intranet. In some cases, we see that offboarding is also arranged via the intranet.
When preboarding, you prepare for your new job. With onboarding you get worked in, and with offboarding… then you say goodbye. With these 3 variants, employees get access to a certain part of the intranet while they are not yet employed, are being trained, or have left aangekondigd.De
6 benefits we see
Why would you want to do all this on your intranet? The advantages we see (there are probably more):
- perhaps the biggest open door: everything you do via your (social) intranet saves additional tools and communication in your channel landscape.
- If your intranet is already a central point where all information and communication come together, then preboarding, onboarding and offboarding cannot be missing. It emphasizes the central role of the platform.
- If preboarding takes place via the intranet, new colleagues immediately become familiar with the platform. Thus, the use of the intranet immediately enters the system of new employees.
- By using the intranet as the channel for preboarding, the transition to onboarding is very smooth: new colleagues continue to work in the same system.
- New employees can already get to know their new colleagues (and, if desired, already have conversations with them).
- When offboarding, it is convenient if this is done via the (social) intranet, because the departing colleague can still share knowledge or documents in a central place. This helps to minimize the loss of knowledge.
What goals have you set for your intranet?
Do you now have to run directly to your intranet provider to let your onboarding take place via the intranet? Of course, that depends on the ambitions of your organization and the way you want people within your organization to interact with each other. It also depends on the goals you have set for your intranet.
If your organization has a strong focus on collaboration and knowledge sharing, then onboarding via the intranet can be a good way to support these goals.
The size of your organization can also be decisive. If you work for a large organization, it can be difficult to personalize onboarding via the intranet. When onboarding via intranet, it is important to offer sufficient flexibility to meet the needs of different employees.
